Welcome to part two of our Sleep piece. While in part one we looked at some of the causes of poor sleep, in this section we’re exploring some possible remedies, which while they may not totally transform you into an 8 hour wonder, they may certainly impact on your ability to relax. As a chronic poor sleeper, I think that consistency is the key, you need to give each intervention a fair trial before giving up and saying that it doesn’t work.

Have A Relaxing Bath

Therapie Equilibrium Bath & Shower Essence

Cocoon yourself in the scent of serenity! This gorgeous essence contains Fragonia, which is a powerful essential oil with tangible anti-anxiety properties, while Persian Rose acts as a natural anti-depressant. It emulsifiers beautifully in the bath water, enveloping you in the scent. World renowned Aromatherapist Michelle Roques O’Neil, the creator is this brand, always creates something magical and this is no exception.

Kiss The Moon Bedtime Bath Salts

These salts are heavenly scented with Lavender, Bergamot, Cedarwood and Chamomile essential oils all of which work in synergy to soothe and relax. Lavender is a perfect night time beauty oil, able to balance skin’s own oil production and encourage healthy new cells to form, while Roman Chamomile is great for very sensitive or dry skin as it can calm and soothe. Next is the Bergamot which has a calming aroma and can purify the skin lastly Cedarwood, loved for its calming effect. All of this goodness is in a base of good quality Epsom & Dead Sea Salts. These mineral rich salts are a natural source of magnesium, which will be discussing more in a moment…

Westlab Magnesium Flakes

Magnesium itself is known for having a big impact on your sleep. Magnesium is so important to many of the body’s regulatory and biochemical systems and when you are lacking in it, it’ll certainly have an impact on your overall health. Studies have found that that it helps decrease cortisol, the “stress hormone” that can keep you up at night… plus it’s a muscle relaxer and I know that when my body and muscles feel more relaxed, the easier I find it to drift off. It’s effective in a bath as Magnesium can be absorbed effectively through the skin, so when the salts/flakes are dissolved in a bath and you allow your body to soak in it, you gain all the benefits of it… plus the warmth of the bath will help relax your muscles even more. We talked about the benefits of magnesium and its effect on sleep here.

Topical Treats for Stress and Anxiety Relief

Better You Magnesium Oil

As we’ve just spoken about magnesium, I’m not going to repeat myself here… but I will say that by using Magnesium in this format is fabulous for any aches and pains which might be keeping you up at night.

Kiss The Moon Dream After Dark Balm

This little potion is applied to the pulse points to promote relaxation and calm… contains a Kiss The Moon signature blend of essentail oils plus 100% natural shea butter and white tea seed oil. Along with being infused with Lavender, this balm has a fresher scent which comes from the apple scented Roman Chamomile to help calm the mind.

Tisserand Sweet Dreams Rollerball

The Tisserand ‘Sweet Dreams’ aromatherapy rollerball is a soothing fusion of lavender, sandalwood, cedarwood and jasmine. Just roll it on your pulse points, temples etc…and exhale. Perfect for instant soothing.

Elemis De Stress Massage Oil

This lush aromatherapy oil is designed to relax, soothe and harmonise with its hand selected pure essential oils of Rosewood, Melissa, Marjoram, Geranium, Rosemary, Lavender and Chamomile. As with many aromatherapy oils it smells wonderful but what makes this stand out is how potent the blend is…. you start to feel relaxed just by inhaling it, so you can imagine how effective it is at soothing when having a massage with it. The other quality that stands out about this oil is how rich and luscious it feels; for me that is really important as I really find thin oils unattractive and difficult to use

Here’s our full review of the oil and the benefits of massage here.

Create A Sleep Zone

I have to admit that it is very soothing when I actually manage to turn my room into a sleep zone…you know… pillows fluffed and on point… lights off and aromatherapy candles burning, you get the picture. Of course this is all wonderful but not if you proceed to put your TV on so that you can watch your latest drama obsession.

Spray a fine mist onto your pillow before going to sleep and you will find yourself drifting off a little easier. It contains a superblend of Lavender, Vetivert and Camomile to calm both the mind and body, soothing you to sleep.

Feather and Down Pillow Spray

This is another pillow spray that we love and was something we featured in our Wellbeing Zone event goody bag – it has become a firm favourite since. It contains an infusion of Lavender and Chamomile essential oils.
