I love a matcha. It’s one of my favourite drinks at the moment. I love the creaminess and flavour, and the steady stream of energy it gives me rather than the spike coffee can bring. It’s really having a moment right now and brands are bringing out new and creative ways to enjoy this fabulous green drink.
Recently, I’ve been testing out the new generation of matcha – one that isn’t just matcha, but is packed with other ingredients and added benefits to just add a little more to the routine.
Matcha has plenty of its own benefits including:
- It is rich in protective polyphenols
- It contains caffeine alongside L-theanine, which may contribute to a feeling of calm, focused alertness.
- It’s rich in chlorophyll, the pigment responsible for its vibrant green colour. It may help eliminate toxins and heavy metals in the body
Matcha is everywhere right now, but not all matcha is created equal.
What to look for in good quality matcha
- Look for a vibrant, bright green powder from Japan
- Look for transparency regarding the harvest date or production year rather than a generic “best before” date.
- Look for ceremonial grade matcha, which is typically made from younger, carefully selected tea leaves and is prized for its vibrant colour, smooth texture and less bitter flavour.
These matcha blends might not be the most traditional, but they all use ceremonial grade matcha and offer something extra alongside your usual matcha boost. Here are some of my current favourites and why they could become a staple in your routine.
Supercharged Matcha Blends to Try
Matcha with added benefits

Youth and Earth AM: Sunrise Blend, Vanilla Matcha
A wonderful blend for those who want added health benefits from their drink.
The vanilla in this matcha balances beautifully with the matcha, taking the edge off any grassy or bitter notes. It’s smooth and creamy and an oh-so delicious start to the day. The sachets make it easy for travel too as well as meaning you get the perfectly packaged amount of matcha each time.
Alongside ceremonial grade matcha, this blend contains:
- Ginseng Extract
- Cordyceps Militaris Extract
- Lion’s Mane Extract
- Reishi Extract
- Turkey Tail Extract
- Ginkgo Biloba Extract
- One sachet of the matcha blend (the recommended serving size) is 51 mg of caffeine.
You can also check out the lab report (Certificate of Analysis) of this product on their website.
Matcha collagen

Ancient + Brave Matcha + Collagen
This is a fabulous pairing for those who want added skin benefits in their matcha!
Unlike the other blends in this round-up, this one isn’t sweetened with vanilla, so it has a more earthy, traditional matcha flavour. If you prefer your matcha less sweet and want to really taste the green tea, this could be the one for you.
Alongside ceremonial grade matcha, this blend contains:
- 3b Grass-fed Bovine True Collagen
- Organic Lion’s Mane
- Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha
- Organic MCT Powder
- Organic Cinnamon
- A 6g serving of this matcha (the recommended serving size) contains 22.56mg of caffeine.
Matcha protein

Free Soul x PerfectTed Matcha Protein Powder
This matcha is perfect for those who want to up the amount of protein in their diet – this one gives you 18g protein per serving.
It does feel heavier than a regular matcha, thanks to the whey protein, but it’s still smooth, creamy and satisfying. The protein also makes it feel more substantial than a regular matcha.
Alongside 2g ceremonial grade matcha powder, this blend contains:
- Blend of Whey, Pea and Milk Isolate
- DigeZyme® digestive enzymes
- A 25g serving of this matcha blend (the recommended serving size) contains 64mg of caffeine.
Caffeine content varies quite a bit between these blends, so it’s worth checking the serving size if you’re sensitive to caffeine or already drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks.
A traditional matcha, of course, has its own place in your routine, but these are great options if you’re looking for something with a few added benefits.
