It’s dark outside, you’ve had a long day and you just want to wrap up warm for the evening… it’s time to cocoon yourself in calm for the evening. Here’s how to start.

Step One: Warmth

Let’s start your cosy routine by bringing back some warmth – this helps to relax your muscles and signals to your body that it’s safe to rest. Grab your favourite cosy blanket and snuggle up or take a warm bath or shower with your favourite relaxing products.

Warmth can also come from within… make yourself a nourishing drink like a creamy hot chocolate or a spiced herbal tea, and sip it slowly, mindfully…

Step Two: Nourish

One thing that’s important to do as part of your own selfcare is nourish yourself – from the inside out.

Massage in a rich body oil or body while your skin is still damp. Seal in moisture as you release the day. Slow touches and warmth activate your parasympathetic nervous system – the ‘rest and digest mode’.

You can extend this nourishment to your dinner table too. Start preparing hearty stews, soups, and cosy bakes that comfort you from within.

Step Three: Ground

Let’s bring it all back and ground yourself after the day, bringing you back to yourself and this moment. Pause, take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes, roll your shoulders, unclench your jaw and maybe take a moment to do a quick meditation. Let’s do one together now… here we go:

  • Start by slowing down your breath.
  • Breathe in for four
  • Hold the breath for four
  • Exhale for six.

Let your body soften as you repeat this a few times. Feel the tension start to melt away.

Step Four: Rest

Rest is the key. Create a restful space that supports deep relaxation and that starts by optimising our space.

Surround yourself with your comfort – it might be soft furnishings like a nice blanket or pillow… grab yourself a warm drink and maybe a book (step away from that phone or screens if you can, blue light won’t help you rest).

Choose your fragrance: look for a comforting or calming fragrance in whatever medium you prefer: candle, diffuser, incense or something else…

This is your time to unwind, restore, and just be.
