Today, I’m going to talk about hair masks.

Over the years, I have tried to keep my hair as healthy as possible – I never apply heat and always use serums and oils – however, I have dyed it and used bleach, which has left it quite frazzled and dry. I also have very curly hair, which tends to be naturally drier than normal, and it is very long, so the ends are quite fragile.  To try and bring my hair back into a healthy position (particularly my bleached ends), I have started trying out a few new hair masks and have been monitoring the condition of my hair after each use. Here are two products that I’ve been loving recently!

Firstly – both of these hair masks smell absolutely divine. I like to leave the masks on for as long as possible – preferably for the whole day to maximise penetration. Therefore – a nice smelling mask is a must-have for me. My focus was on products that promised intense hydration, particularly interested in those focused on curly hair. Here are two winners.

Manuka Doctor Apirevive Restorative Hair Mask

This creamy treatment combined Manuka Honey, Manuka Oil and Abyssinian Oil to soften and smooth the hair. It’s very lightweight and not sticky so doesn’t leave the hair feeling greasy or heavy. The squeezey tube also makes application easier rather than having to scoop it out of a pot which can get quite messy. Manuka honey, one of the primary ingredients in this hair mask, is produced in New Zealand and is known as one of the most unique and beneficial forms of honey as it contains up to 4 times the nutritional content of normal flower honey. Manuka Honey will help fight frizz, give your hair a shine and will help maintain a healthy scalp.

This one left my hair feeling very soft, this is what I noticed more than anything. The honey scent was gorgeous and my hair was left feeling nice and hydrated. If you’re looking for something to smoothen and soften the hair – try this one out.

Shea Moisture Black Castor Oil Mask

This mask is formulated with Jamaican Black Castor Oil and certified organic Shea butter to replenish moisture, along with softening and strengthening the hair. It is specifically designed for curly, processed hair – which is exactly what I have. It has a strong smell of Shea Butter, which I love and my hair felt noticeably smoother and less frazzled even after one use. The mask itself is very thick and creamy and is a dark brown colour, so if you have a lighter hair colour you might want to be careful with this one. My hair feels stronger, moisturised and healthier after each use!

Using these hair masks have definitely made a difference with my hair and I would certainly recommend anyone who hasn’t started using hair masks regularly to start doing it. Make sure to give special treatment to the ends, as they will be the most fragile. Your hair will thank you for it!
