I know what you’re all thinking… why a hair scrub?

Well, it’s been something I’ve been thinking about for a while. I’m someone who uses a lot of products on my curly hair… so for a while I’ve been feeling like my scalp needs a little TLC. The only time it’s without product on it is in the short time between being in the shower/bath and getting to my bedroom! What I use on pretty much a daily basic is a mix of oils, serums, creams and mousse. What I’ve found is that when I touch my scalp, I can sometimes even feel the build-up (which is actually pretty gross!). I also work in Central London… I don’t even want to think about all the grime that ends up in my hair. So… when I first heard about The Body Shop’s Fuji Green Tea Refreshingly Purifying Cleansing Hair Scrub I was intrigued. I love body scrubs all know all about their amazing benefits… so why wouldn’t this also work for the hair?

First impression

The first thing I noticed about this product was that it smells amazing! It smells minty and fresh and I can’t get enough of it. The Body Shop has some amazing smelling products. I adore the scent of their banana shampoo and conditioner and I love their strawberry range! This one is quickly becoming one of my favourites.

Since the first use of this product, my scalp has felt immediately clearer and clean. It tingled after applying (which I imagine is the mint menthols, which cleans and freshens the scalp), which makes me feel like it’s really working and my hair felt lighter than it has in years – probably because it’s finally free of product build-up! My hair feels super soft, revitalised and smooth.

One note – I have a semi-permanent colour on my hair and I did see more of this wash out when using this product, but this wasn’t a problem for me. But if you have coloured hair, keep that in mind.

What’s in it?

  • Japanese Green Tea: the caffeine and antioxidants found in it has been proven to work to increase growth, thickness and give the hair a lustrous shine when used externally.
  • Mint Menthol: this is peppermint oil which is what gives this product the freshened smell and tingly sensation on the scalp. This cleans the scalp and promotes growth.
  • Salt Crystals: this helps to exfoliate the scalp gently, removing dead skin cells and promoting hair growth.
  • Community Trade honey from Ethiopia: the enzymes and nutrients in raw honey give dull hair shine without weighing it down, plus the humectant properties of honey help regulate and retain moisture in hair.

How to use:

I was a little concerned that the texture would be off-putting, that it would feel lumpy. But it doesn’t feel bitty like a body scrub, I just scoop some onto my hands and then rub it into my scalp. It lathers up just like all other shampoos so I then run it through the rest of my hair, but mainly concentrate on my scalp rather than the ends. A little goes a long way and the salts help to gently exfoliate the scalp without making my hair feel weird or bitty.

I then follow it up with my usual conditioner to restore moisture to the hair. I cannot vouch for the hair growth which is what some people have noticed happening after using this product. But I do think that the scalp stimulation would certainly help with hair growth.

This scrub is something that I have been loving. I will continue to use this on a weekly basis to keep my hair feeling fresh, clean and revitalised!
