I always love when I find something that looks a little different and the products from Aura Mirabilis really caught my eye!

This line is from Roger & Gallet, who are most well-known for their perfumes and soaps and are one of France’s oldest fragrance empires, made their first foray into skincare with four products: an essence, a cream, a beauty vinegar and a mask. What really caught my attention is the essence – it contains the concentrates of 18 officinal plants and distilled plants and these are captured in a unique bi-phasic formula. Officinal is the term applied to herbs and plants with uses in medicine and herbalism. My eyes were instantly drawn to the gorgeous bottle and I had to try it out. I have also been testing out their ‘legendary cream’ – here are my thoughts!

These products are designed for anti-ageing, to restore the skins barrier and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. I found the essence very unusual as I tend to use serums more than essences, which tend to be quite liquidly, lighter on the skin and ideal as the weather starts to get warmer. What’s really cool about this essence is you start by shaking the bottle to mix up the concentrate and water essence together and then the perfect amount of mixture goes into the top of the bottle which you pour into your hands. It means you don’t end up accidentally pouring out too much and it distributes enough product for not only my face, but also enough to smooth down my neck which is somewhere I often forget to give attention. It also preserves the ingredients by preventing it from making contact with the air and degrading. The essence itself feels very light but instantly makes your skin feel very soft and silky. It is described as ‘offering a protective halo against external aggressions’. It is water based and doesn’t feel at all oily. Very cool and unique!

The cream is white and feels very nourishing – you don’t need a lot to cover your whole face. The cream, along with being enriched with the 18 officinal and distilled plants that are in the essence, is also combined with an extra of white lily. This is a natural herb which is used to treat damaged and irritated tissue, rejuvenating the skin. It melts into the skin and is designed to act against dehydration and discomfort. A very lovely and rather lightweight cream that feels very soft and nourishing.

The plant extracts in this product are:

  • Sandalwood
  • Geranium
  • Neroli
  • Lemon Zest
  • Thyme
  • Lavendin
  • Sweet Orange
  • Lemongrass
  • Lavender
  • Green Mandarin
  • Damask Rose
  • Palmarosa
  • Citronelle
  • Bitter Orange Leaf
  • May Change
  • Magnolia
  • Bergamot
  • Rosemary

The bottles are both very classy and it looks very elegant – it looks lovely on my vanity with their signature style being that of the ‘avante-garde tradition’. They have a light floral scent, but certainly nothing overpowering, which is something I appreciate in my skincare as something more heavily scented can often be an irritant. These products are also paraben free.
