Yes – once again we have been seduced by one of the most instagrammable brands out there at the moment – the fabulous Herbivore Botanicals. Recently, I have been trying out their chemical exfoliant ‘Prism’ and would like to share my thoughts with you.
What it’s like
I will say – I saw an immediate result from this fabulous product. I used this before I went to bed and when I woke up and looked at my skin – it was beautifully glowy in the way only a chemical exfoliant leaves the skin. It felt radiant even after one use.
Nevertheless- it doesn’t feel like it’s irritating my skin or making it red in any way. It had some lovely ingredients in here to soothe the skin as it exfoliates, so my skin felt great. Some people may find that it tingles, but as I’ve used chemical exfoliators in the past I didn’t have that reaction from it.
It has a gooey sort of texture, which comes from the Hyaluronic Acid in it. It doesn’t feel sticky or tacky at all, but blends and disappears into the skin easily and quickly.
The product works to slough away at dead skin cells, revealing the fresh, glowing skin underneath, it declogs pores and smooth out the texture of your skin. Beautiful!
What’s in Herbivore’s Prism Potion
Fruit Acids (5%): Bilberry Lactic, Sugar Cane Glycolic, Orange Peel Citric and Apple Malic Acid pair with Vitamin C-rich Kakadu Plum make up our rainbow of fruit acids. This gently works away at the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin, revealing radiant skin underneath.
It also contains Rose Water, Aloe Water, and plant-derived vegan Sodium Hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) combine to soothe the appearance of redness, visibly plump and hydrate dry skin.
Who is it for?
Chemical exfoliants are not for everyone. Start slow, see how your skin reacts after one use. Make sure to patch test. This is one of the more gentler exfoliants so more sensitive skins may be able to tolerate it – but it all depends on how your skin reacts.
Do not use this if you’re already suing other exfoliating products (for example, in a cleanser or a mask) – you don’t need that much exfoliation in one day!
How to use
Apply 4-8 drops to clean skin and massage in as a leave on treatment.
Apply it before your skin for maximum benefits. Herbivore also recommend that you mix it with a facial oil to enhance glow!
To bear in mind…
If you do have this product – you may be tempted to keep this on display because it looks so pretty, but do keep it out of direct sunlight. The packaging is pretty, but it does mean that the product is not protected and will degrade in the light.
They state on their website that the product may change colour from the clear colour to a deep amber “which is just due to the presence of vitamin C in Kakadu Plum extract, which is naturally a vibrant gold colour”.
As it contains AHA’s- your skin will be extra sensitive to sunlight when using this – so please make sure to use SPF!
