In the last few years, and particularly recently, there’s been a real shift in the beauty industry. Not only are people being more conscious about how the product effects the environment, there’s also a big focus on cruelty free beauty, which is fantastic, and slightly more recently, vegan beauty as a more ethical approach to beauty.

So here is a selection of some of our favourite vegan beauty and wellness brands.

This high performance complexion product range has a beautiful array of makeup and skincare products. One of our favourites are their Custom Cover Drops – absolutely beautiful highlighters that leave the skin absolutely glowing. They describe their brand as one with “clean, high performance complexion essentials formulated for customization.” Love that!

Orveda

This is a high end luxury green beauty brand on a mission to “Shift the mindset of beauty ..” away from anxiety and obsession towards positivity and self esteem.

The  range was created by Sue Y Nabi and Nicholas Vue and launched in 2017 both longstanding beauty industry experts; the concept is new age holistic skincare focused on creating glowing, luminous and healthy skin, as Sue Y Nabi says “Today, beauty (and the desire for beauty) is all about glow, light, luminosity, and not only looking but feeling healthy, in ways that go beyond a smoother-looking or tighter skin.”

There is a lot of science behind this range of positive ageing products but the science is used to harness the power of natural and bio fermented ‘actives’ to boost and strengthen the skin.

Milk Makeup is a fun and quirky US brand, with thoughtful and minimalist formulas. In their words, they “see personal style and experimentation as the ultimate forms of self-expression. It’s not just about how you create your look; it’s what you do in it that matters”

 E.l.f. Cosmetics

This gorgeous US brand is budget friendly with some really amazing products that perform beautifully… with a full range of makeup and even skincare.

E.L.F. stands for EVERY eye, lip and face!

Evolve Beauty

Evolve Beauty products are lovingly handmade in small batches at their studio in Hertfordshire, England to ensure the freshness of the precious antioxidants in the natural oils, butters and extracts. Their products are vegan, cruelty free and eco-friendly.

BYBI

Love that this brand is also very passionate about sustainability, which they highlight on their website, talking all about the three core elements of sustainability in their company: Ingredients, Manufacturing and Packaging. A shoutout goes to their amazing Mega Mist… love it!

BYBI stands for By Beauty Insiders. Founded by Elsie & Dominika in 2017, they are beauty bloggers, trained formulators and skincare experts who create products based on what they want and what they know doesn’t yet exist.

Vanderohe

Vanderohe is an aroma-centric skincare. It was started when founder Olivia had skin issues and she began researching the power of plant science and experimenting with oil formulations… leading to her hero product and a personal favourite, No.1 Nourishing Face serum.

The brand is plant based but backed with science for results driven, beautifully scented products.

This natural and eco-conscious brand focuses on English grown purple fruits, wild flower oils and organic oils naturally high in essential fatty acids, micronutrients and antioxidants to bring life to their range.

Daughter of the Soil

Apart from being totally charmed by the two dynamos that founded the brand and their story, I also really like their products. I especially love the lush Marula Oil and the Shea Body Butter. All of their raw ingredients are sourced from various regions in East Africa. The brand is very particular about using only the highest quality ingredients.

Skin Alchemists

I love it when a brand appears that is so clearly born out of love and passion that you can’t wait to meet the founder and discover where all of that love and passion comes from, and passion is a word that personifies this brand perfectly.

In a nutshell, this brand is the lovechild of Teresa Edward and is inspired by the natural botanicals and herbal remedies found on the Caribbean island of St Lucia: in fact her aunt who was the ‘go to’ herbalist on the island was one of the key inspirations behind the range as she had a potent elixir for pretty much every ailment.
