Once in a while, an eyeshadow comes along that is just that little bit extra special. The Barry M Glazed Gel Chrome Eyeshadow is one of them – and even better, it’s a little bit of luxury without the luxury price tag.

About the eyeshadow
I’ve picked up the shade So Exclusive – Duochrome Purple, a beautiful duochrome purple shade, which catches the light, shifting between blue and pink. I love anything that’s a little bit duochrome and I found the colour of this to be really unique.
It’s more of a topper than a traditional eyeshadow, as there isn’t a coloured base to it, but the glitter effect is so pretty and magical. I particularly love layering it over black eyeshadow, where the duochrome really comes to life and creates a much more intense effect. For me and my light skin tone, it works as a really cool highlighter too.
You can also build up the intensity by letting it dry and adding more product.

The application and finish
The formula has a really lovely gel-like texture that almost feels cool to the touch. It’s smooth, without any of that gritty feeling you get with some glitter shadows.
You can apply it with your finger or a brush, although I particularly like using my finger to press the product onto the lid. It dries down nicely and, once it’s set, it doesn’t budge.
The eyeshadow lasts really well – I applied this in the morning and by the evening it was still there. Full disclosure – I do use primer too, to give the product its best chance, but I was really happy with how well it lasted.

The packaging
The packaging is a sturdy, weighty plastic pot that almost feels like glass, with a screw lid and a generous amount of product inside. Keep that pot sealed up tightly, as it will dry out otherwise.
I love this eyeshadow. It feels ethereal and unique. The colour is what initially drew me in, but it has a really lovely gel formula and a beautiful duochrome shift that has made it a real favourite. If you’re looking for a highly pigmented purple eyeshadow, this isn’t quite that – it’s much more about the sparkle and colour shift.
I’ll definitely be trying some more shades from the range, although this one is certainly the most magical of the bunch.
At £5.99, it’s a really budget-friendly way to add a little something extra to your makeup look.
