Do you find that your lipstick never lasts as long as you want it to? This is one of those questions that Makeup Artists are always asked, and we all know how frustrating it is when we’ve applied a lipstick, ready for the day or evening and it fails to stay the course.
Here are some tips from our founder Denise Rabor, who has been an International Makeup Artist for over 16 years, that will help that perfect lipstick last longer…
Look after your lips
Firstly and most importantly, make sure that your lips are in good condition. Lips are skin, so keep them moisturised by making sure that you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. You can also use a good lip balm to keep them in tip top condition.
At this stage, if you are prone to flaky lips, exfoliate them so you have a smooth base for your lipstick.
Create a base
Create a base for your lipstick by either applying your foundation to your lips or using one of the many lip primers that are available.
Line the lips
Next, use a lip pencil ideally in a similar colour to your lipstick, to line and fill in your lips… this helps your colour to last longer and stops it from bleeding.
Apply the lipstick
The next step is to apply the first coat of lipstick and blot so you haven’t got excess product on the lips. If it’s a liquid lipstick, allow it to dry first.
Blot
After your lipstick is dry, lightly powder your lips with translucent powder. This helps to absorb excess product and set that lipstick into place.
Then apply your final coat of lipstick and voila! Long lasting lipstick is yours.
