Frustrated about your makeup sliding off your face or does your face ends up super-shiny by mid-morning? Here are some primers that’ll help keep that oil under control. Here’s our edit of Outstanding Primers for Oily Skin.
NYX Angel Veil
This primer is very velvety and very creamy. The texture will help fill in and blur pores as well as controlling oil by mattifying the skin. It smoothes the skin and your foundation glides on the skin beautifully on the top of this, but it isn’t really a primer you’d tend to wear on its own because of the whitish tint to it. For deeper skintones, it will leave a little bit of a white cast. However, once you apply foundation over the top of this it won’t cause any issues.
Smashbox Photo Finish Iconic Primer Stick
This is pretty a cool product! Great for on the go and can be applied on top of foundation to combat any shininess. Gives your skin a nice slip for foundation and feels incredibly lightweight, but it does help to control oil and can be used specifically to touch up throughout the day. If you’re a fan of their original formula, you will love this one. A great one for when you’re travelling!
Dermalogica Hydrablur
This product provides a flawless, silky matte finish which is great if like me you don’t wear foundation, but still want to look polished, with pores minimised. It sinks into the skin beautifully and as such is perfect for all skin tones when applied with fingertips. however, because it is a whitish cream you must follow the instructions and only use a small amount. It works best for me when I apply it with my fingertips and keeps oily breakthrough at bay for several hours. Want to find out more about this primer? We’ve posted a full review of this product.
Cover FX Custom Blot Drops
This product is described as being like ‘liquid blotting paper’. This has a gel-like format that melts into the skin with an interesting dropper format so you can distribute how much product you need. However, I would find it easier/less messy if it had a pump. It also has some great skincare benefits. Contains African Tree Bark for shine control and pore reduction along with cucumber extract and papaya to soothe the skin. It also contains salicylic acid which will help to clean out the pores and prevent breakouts. This can even be mixed with another primer, your foundation or even a moisturiser.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer
This fabulous primer doesn’t leave a tint on the skin so you can even wear this on its own without foundation. It helps to mattify your skin and blur your pores, leaving your skin feeling like satin and will help control oil throughout the day. I will often skip foundation completely and just apply this primer to make my skin feel and look a little better.
Clinique Hydroblur
Now… this isn’t strictly a primer but can definitely be used as one. It has a very unusual texture which threw me off when I first used it. It has an unusual velvety texture but a little goes a long way. For a face cream, it doesn’t feel wet at all. It’s been described as a filter for the face and it certainly does help to blur the skin and mattify it, keeping your skin pretty matte throughout the day. A lovely product, particularly for those who don’t want to fuss with multiple products.
If you’re looking to combat shine and help control oil throughout the day, definitely give one of these a shot!
