Caffeine is so much more than just your morning coffee!

For many of us, a cup of tea or coffee is a staple to kickstart our day… but it’s magic is more than that. It has lots of health benefits, as well as topical skincare benefits.

Caffeine can help to perk up a tired mind, but it can also energise your skin. It can help boost skin circulation, increasing skins radiance and it also has great antioxidant and ant-inflammatory benefits.

Caffeine is a natural stimulant most commonly found in tea, coffee, and cacao plants.  Historians track the first brewed tea as far back as 2737 B.C.

Inner Beauty

Your morning coffee has gotten a bad reputation in the past – but caffeine has great benefits too when used in moderation.

Caffeine is a natural stimulant, altering your brain chemicals in your central nervous system to increase alertness and energy, as well as boosting your wellbeing.

Also – because of its ability to stimulate the central nervous system, it may increase your metabolism and fat burning too, as well as helping to enhance exercise performance.

How does it work?

When you consume caffeine, it is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and then metabolized by the liver into compounds that can affect various organs, particularly the brain. Caffeine works by blocking adenosine, a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation and sleepiness. By attaching to adenosine receptors without activating them, caffeine effectively reduces feelings of tiredness, helping you stay alert.

However – too much caffeine does have negative side effects, including anxiety, restlessness, tremors, irregular heartbeat, and trouble sleeping, as well as headaches and high blood pressure – so don’t overdo it!

Outer Beauty

Caffeine is great for the skin and can absorb well through the skin. It doesn’t ‘wake up’ your skin quite the way an expresso perks you up, but it does have some great benefits.

Its rich in antioxidants

Antioxidants can also help protect the skin again UV radiation and pollution, protecting you from the damage from sun exposure.

It improves blood circulation

Caffeine helps to improve blood circulation, which can make the skin less puffy around the eyes and improve the skin’s radiance overall.

It may reduce the appearance of cellulite

As caffeine improves blood flow, it may help to remove fatty acids from fat and dissolve fat from below the skin – aka cellulite. It may also dehydrate the water in fat cells, which deflate the look of cellulite, making it less noticeable.
