The thing is that the skin on the hands is particularly thin which means that it’s very quick to show any signs of dryness irritation peeling. So if your hands are suffering its time to take action: and so in order to give my hands some chance of life some chance of soft smoothness I started treating them in the evening as after all skin does regenerate overnight so that’s going to be the perfect treatment for shell-shocked hands as well.

Lately my hands have started to look dry dehydrated and dare I say slightly ravaged. The usual reason for this at this time of year is the effects of winter but now there are also the effects of constant hand washing plus using hand sanitiser which is usually at least 70% alcohol which equals dry irritated skin. Of course there is hand cream but by the time you’ve put it on is usually time to either wash your hands again or to use hand sanitiser again.

Here are some of the products that I’ve found effective:

Zoetic CBD Hand Cream

CBD brand Zoetic have introduced this handcream to their range of products and it’s a winner…in fact it was a struggle to keep it on my desk because it kept vanishing onto someone else’s. First of all this smells gorgeous thanks to the blend of lemongrass and ylang ylang, a real mood booster that has great sillage. Next is the fact that it has a really lovely texture, thanks to a blend of macadamia oil, vitamin E and of course CBD oil. This lush cream deeply moisturises and leaves your hands looking and feeling nourished for ages.

Clockface Hand and Cuticle Oil

This hand oil – yes, hand oil – is easy to use, easily absorbed by the skin and leaves no sticky residue. It has a  lovely light rose scent and I only feel like it needs to be reapplied after washing them, so the hydrating effects last really well.  They also have a roller ball sized version of this which would be perfect for throwing in a handbag for on the go!

Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

This cream from Kiehls has been around for ages and is one of those reliable ‘go tos’ that never lets you down. This hand salve has been specifically designed for dryness caused by heavy industrial work, manual labor, neglect, or exposure to harsh elements by forming a ‘glove-like’ protective barrier against moisturise loss.

But of course you don’t have to rely on products that are specifically for the hands as there are numerous products that will deliver repair, moisture and nourishment to dry hands.

If you fancy do an at home treatment why not try:

Get yourself some latex free disposable gloves if you can get hold of them, exfoliate your hands and then apply a nourishing serum or balm ..we like to use the Casa Mencarelli Serum and balm….apply the serum and massage into your hands, nails and cuticles and then apply the balm….put the gloves on and relax for 20 minutes …after this, massage any residue into your forearms.

Daughter of the Soil’s Marula Oil followed with their Shea Butter is also a good multi-tasking alternative to a standard hand cream, they work beautifully together to moisturise and protect the skin.
