Smashbox teamed up with the gorgeous Shay Mitchell to create 7 beautiful palettes, each with their own unique style to them – and we have been playing with the smokey eye palette…. here are our thoughts!

What I like about it

The packaging for this palette is very sleek and compact, perfect for travelling – and I love the effect on the cover!

Even though the packaging is very compact, you get a decent amount of eye shadow in each pan, which is appreciated. We were immediately drawn to this palette because it is full of rich, earthy shades… but let’s talk about how they work on the skin.

The eyeshadows themselves are very smooth and blend nicely together. These are actually pretty great for everyday looks as as they’re not too intense but they can be built-up to increase the intensity, and work well when fingers are used to apply the product, then blended with a brush. On deeper skin tones it can take a little more time to build up, but once you do you can create some gorgeous looks from it.

The smokey palette consists of 6 eyeshadows plus what’s called 2 ‘base’ shadows, but this would depend on skintone. I love the idea that these ‘base shades’ are larger in the palette as they’re usually one you reach for first and will use more often, but this would of course depend on the person using it and their skin tone. Even though this is a small palette, I have been able to create a full look with it without having to reach for any other palettes as there’s a nice mix of matte and shimmer, with one that I’d say is more glittery which is the black. This one is particularly pretty as it has beautiful specks of deep navy blue and silver glitter which catch the light beautifully.

Although we have only reviewed one palette from this range, they do in fact have have a range of seven palettes, so there’s something for everyone depending on what your personal preference is and what works for your skintone – they’ve featured everything from a bright and bold palette to a full-on metallic palette. I have certainly enjoyed playing with the smokey palette and think it is a very pretty palette – it’ll be in my handbag for the next time I go travelling!
