Hi beauties, this is where I try to persuade you to switch up your cleansing routine and try a cleansing oil. Okay, so I can almost already hear some of you saying that a cleansing oil is not going to work for you, but before you sign off let me convince you that its worth you trying one AND that once you do, you’re going to love it!

Contrary to what you might be thinking, an oil can be a supremely effective cleanser, it’s just about knowing your skintype and matching it with the correct cleansing oil.

Fact 1 The magic about using an oil to cleanse any skin is that the oils work well with other oils when they meet; so when you apply a cleansing oil to your skin and massage it in, it mixes with the oils already on your skin [usually your skins natural oil secretions, makeup and other lotions and potions] so that when you rinse, you’re not just removing the cleansing oil, you’re removing all of the unwanted stuff from your skin too, leaving only the essentials.

Myth It’s a total myth that using a cleansing oil on your skin will result in it soaking into your skin and leading to blocked pores.

Fact 2 Because of the range of oils and botanical extracts that are found in cleansing oils, there really is an oil that is appropriate for almost every skin type; for example for those of you who like me have combination skin can benefit from cleansers with safflower oil as it is great for both cleansing and hydration.

On the flipside, those with more sensitive skin might benefit from a cleanser that includes olive oil as it’s known for preventing irritation as well as for its antioxidant qualities.

Generally if like most of us you are concerned with protecting your skin from the oxidants that lead to skin damage and ageing, then a cleansing oil that includes antioxidant vitamins C & E, as well lipids which help to maintain the skins hydration levels.

I’m introducing these 3 oils because these are the 3 that I am using and will continue to use because they are all different but all really effective.

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

I have to say that this is one of my personal favourites because it does what it says on the bottle; it deep cleanses my combination skin perfectly, leaving it feeling clean but hydrated. You’ll love this if you like a bit of ‘squeak’ in your clean.

This oil is designed to remove makeup …all makeup even the waterproof stuff. It contains olive oil and skin boosting vitamins which means that it leaves my skin looking and feeling good.

The brand say ”In a clinical study, 92% of participants agreed Deep Cleansing Oil worked better than a leading cleanser at removing complexion make-up
Nourishes and hydrates for younger-looking skin’

Just massage it into your skin, when satisfied add water and it transforms to a milky, vitamin-rich emulsion that rinses clean.

Bare Minreals Oil obsessed Total Cleansing Oil

Bare Minerals introduced this luscious oil cleanser  earlier this year as part of their Skinsorials range which has the use of nourishing skin replenishing minerals at its core. It contains Borage oil, Bilberry oil, cucumber oil as well as the mineral rich sea salts.

This oil is light and feels lovely on your skin, it also smells gorgeous … a mix of lavender and tangerine. Its designed to remove makeup and impurities. Once you’ve massaged it into your skin, when youre satisfied you just add water to emulsify and rinse.

The brand say “Immerse your skin in this ultra-lightweight facial cleansing oil for a comforting cleansing experience. Oil Obsessed Total Cleansing Oil glides on to your dry face to effectively – yet gently – dissolve makeup and impurities”

The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil

Last but by no means least is this cleansing oil from the Body Shop. This Camomile cleanser is a light and silky oil that is designed for all skin types but is especially good for those with sensitive skin and for contact lens wearers. This is also designed to remove makeup, including waterproof.

This works well on my combination skin, which I have to say I didn’t expect, so it’s definitely a keeper.

The brand say “This all-in-one refreshing oil cleanser will quickly remove all your make-up in one simple step. Your skin will be left feeling beautifully clean and soft, after every use of this nourishing oil formula.”

I love using cleansing oils because apart from all of the above, they make cleansing a very sensual experience; my cleansing ritual becomes a mindful experience. There’s something very sensual about the feel of the oil on my skin as I massage it in. I can feel the texture of my skin, I take note of the contours of my face…suddenly I can connect with areas of facial tension and I can ease them with some facial massage.
