Well, now that cleansing is all the rage and it’s never been more important to be aware about staying clean, we thought it was time to talk about an eco-conscious trend that was becoming increasingly popular… cleansing bars!
Cleansing bars are meant to replace your usually plastic heavy products, ones that often are used up quickly and frequently, leading to quite a bit of waste which affects the environment hugely…. In this feature, we’re focusing on ones for the face and hair.
These cleansing bars are not only good for the environment, but they’re all jam packed with loving ingredients to nurture your skin as they cleanse… they’re not going to strip you dry but will give your skin a loving hug.

Maison Meunier – Natural Charcoal Cleansing Bar
I discovered this charcoal cleansing bar while judging for the Beauty Shortlist and became addicted. Apart from activated charcoal this lush bar contains shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil, castor oil, tea tree oil, rosehip oil and lavender oil and it smells gorgeous too. it’s perfect for face and body and is particularly good at drawing out dirt and impurities that may be blocking your pores.
Fat and Moon – Shampoo
This shampoo is described as one for all types of people and hair types – love that! It utilises Rhassoul clay to cleanse the hair gently but effectively.
I appreciate that this is a foaming shampoo as I was a little concerned that it wouldn’t. It lathers up well when applied directly to the scalp and gives the hair a nice gentle cleanse without stripping it – really lovely.
Fat and Moon – Conditioner
This conditioner is called an everlasting gobstopper for the hair – that it lasts AGES and I have to say, even after using it a few times it doesn’t seem to get any smaller, which is great! You rub this under water and then glide it through the hair to condition – it does take some getting used to but it does feel nice on the hair. One of the key ingredients in this is cocoa butter to nourish the hair.
What I also appreciate with this brand is that you can request to be sent the product without the tin – meaning that you don’t end up hoarding too many of them with repeat purchases – you can just reuse the tin over again. I get through a lot of shampoo and conditioner (well, conditioner more than shampoo to be honest) so being able to not add more waste into the environment this way makes me feel good.
