TREAT

Treat. There are a couple of ways of defining this word either as an indulgence or within the context of finding a treatment for some sort of concern or condition. So to be clear, for the purposes of this section of the Holistic Beauty and Wellbeing Special we are looking at treatments that help us to manage conditions or to simply improve the quality of our skin.

We’ve gathered some lovely skincare treatments designed to treat all skin needs… face, body and hands. I don’t believe that skin treatments have to have the latest ‘bells and whistles’ on them, sometimes less is more and products formulated with natures ingredients can be just as amazing (if not more) as some of those technologically advanced products; for example turmeric is awesome when it comes to reducing inflammation (find out more about the benefits of turmeric here), while peppermint is a natural antiseptic.

FACE TREATS
Of course there are lots and lots of skin treatments that I could have included in this section and you’ll all have your favourites, but it’s not possible to include everything so the products featured here are effective at making a visible difference to your skin by boosting your skins resilience by detoxing, unblocking, refining, brightening, smoothing, nourishing or simply hydrating it…PLUS we’ve covered many of our favourites in the Nourish section of the special. As always there are a couple of my personal favourites in the selection and whatever you skin type there should be something that will work for you.

Mauli Radiance Mask and Exfoliant

This luxurious exfoliating offering from Ayurvedic brand Mauli has fast become a personal favourite. One of the first things you’ll notice when you open this jar is the of scent of pure sandalwood and Rose, which is immensely soothing. I simply love the way that this appeals to almost all of the senses… visual, smell and touch; it comes with a small spoon so that you can scoop out the quantity you need without wasting any of it. It’s a pleasure to indulge in the ritual of having the powder in your hands, adding liquid, mixing it and transforming it into either an exfoliant or a mask. I’d say allow yourself the time to enjoy this self are ritual, make it a mindful moment where you treat your senses and your skin, without rushing.

To use: by mixing it with rose water to make a paste and applying to my skin, leaving it to dry for about 7 or 8 minutes after which time I wet it and massage my face with the paste. It leaves my skin smooth and super glowy. Read our full review here.

Kiss The Moon After Dark Face Mask

Kiss The Moon created this gorgeous skin kit that’s made up of a face polish and a face oil. I’m loving this because this duo combines two important skincare elements: exfoliation and nourishment PLUS there’s the added therapeutic benefit of luscious aromatherapy oils that are designed to soothe and relax. The skin polish is made up of sugar AHAS & mango butter and the oil nourishes the skin with a blend of orange, geranium, myrrh and Llisea oils and is especially good for dry or dehydrated skin. Massage this beautiful sugar polish into your skin until it dissolves and it will exfoliate your skin beautifully, and the mango butter will deeply moisturise the skin. This set includes the face polish, a face oil and a cleansing cloth.

Elde Enzyme Treatment

This product is a great starting point for people who are just looking to get into exfoliants – it has both a chemical exfoliant in it and a physical one. It contains gentle fruit enzymes to provide a chemical exfoliation and also has cranberry seed powder to remove dead skin cells physically, unblocking pores to reveal healthy new skin. If you’re very new to chemical exfoliants you may experience a slight tingle, but otherwise this is a lovely, gentle product which won’t feel at all scratchy or harsh. How to use: Apply to a clean face and massage in, leave it on for ten minutes and then wash it away.

Body Scrubs

I don’t know about you but I cannot live without a good body scrub to keep my skin in good condition. Whatever the season, I exfoliate at least once a week. As well as helping to to keep our skin smooth and silky by removing dead skin cells, it helps to improve the effectiveness of the moisturising products that we use. If you’ve ever noticed that your body moisturiser seems to just sit on the surface of your skin without delivering on its promise to hydrate, you probably need to exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells that are preventing absorption. If you are focused on positive ageing then this isn’t a step that you can skip. So to get and keep that all important glow start now – and here are some things to help you on your way to keep your skin in tip-top condition!

Malee Conditioning Body Scrub

It’s not often that you put salt and sugar together but it works really well in this lush Malee Verdure conditioning body scrub. Of course the salt and sugar don’t work in isolation, they are supported by a luxurious mix of nourishing oils including wheat germ, sweet almond and avocado blended with other potent nourishers like Shea butter. Oh yes and the earthy fragrance is a mix of patchouli, mint and citrus is not only grounding but also strangely addictive… maybe that’s the brands African genes!

Heaven Salt Glow

This is where a treatment really does become an indulgent treat. Just opening the packaging alone is a thrill, I mean it’s not many body scrubs that come in a luxurious presentation box! This is not a scrub to rush, it’s one to allow yourself to take time with.. .a mindful moment. This salt glow comes in two parts – a bottle of oil and a jar of salts. Simple. Okay, let me expand on that. A bottle of beautifully scented essential oils that include Jasmine, lavender and geraniums as well as skin nourishing oils that include Vitamin E and Grapeseed. A jar of equally gorgeous smelling salts that are the colour of the sea and are infused with algae.

All you have to after spending some time inhaling all of this lush gorgeousness is add the oil to the salts, mix and massage it into damp skin. Now I warn you, it’s easy to get carried away and just keep massaging because it feels amazing and smells amazing and you just won’t want to rinse it off, but you must and when you do you’ll be left with your softest skin ever, plus you’ll be in a really relaxed and happy mood.
